Below are letters
received by the Harrison County Democratic Party concerning the urgent
need for healthcare reform. These are personal letters and they point out
the need for a long term solution to America's health care crisis. To include your letter,

(Mine) is not a
tragic story; however it illustrates the problem with allowing the
for-profit insurance industry to continue its stranglehold on and control
of the entire health care system.
I urge you to reconsider withholding
support for the plans/bills soon to appear in Congress, and do what you
can to help craft final legislation that can genuinely reform health care
delivery.
We call
ourselves a Christian nation. Jesus said, “What you do to the least of
these you do to me.” It is time to stop yelling at each other and think
about what we are doing. Everyone deserves health care. This is an issue of
extreme importance to our future. We must all study the facts, and hope
that Congress will ignore the special interests and do likewise... Health
Care Reform will SAVE money. Pretty
sad that many Americans are facing shorter life spans because they do not
have access to basic antibiotics... I am very passionate about HUMAN
RIGHTS and I equate health care as a basic human right particularly in a
country so rich with resources as ours. I am a mature Licensed
Professional Counselor and a doctoral candidate for my PhD in Clinical
Psychology which I expect to receive soon. Three years ago I tried to
obtain medical insurance and was turned down because of a pre-existing
condition.
Health care costs are spiraling upward at
several times the rate of inflation and wages. This bubble is
unsustainable and will burst just as the financial and real estate bubbles
did with equally disastrous results. Democrats are giving us one more last
chance to fix it.
Information available from the Census
Bureau points to the urgent need for reform in your own District. Figures
from 2005 (the latest available) show that almost 150,000 people, under
the age of 65, in the Fourth Congressional District, are uninsured.
We, the Jackson County Democratic Executive
Committee, support President Obama’s plans to reform health care in our
nation and urge Congressman Gene Taylor to support him too.
When the
Senate Finance Committee held hearings on health care reform they did not
allow legitimate advocates of a single payer system to participate. They
were ridiculed by Senator Baucus and escorted out by Capital Police.
The statement that the federal government
would require everyone on Social Security to undergo counseling every five
years for an explanation on how to end their lives is not true.
I do not
agree with your arguments about cost or availability. The costs that
you refer to are the exorbitant and out of control costs that are being
generated by the monopolistic healthcare industry NOW, before any
meaningful reform. |
