Lott resigns from U.S. Senate! Lott officially
resigned from office Tuesday 12/18, serving less than a year into his
current term.
Republican Gov. Haley Barbour wants to hold the special election in
conjunction with the November presidential election. State law requires
Barbour to call a special election within 100 days of Lott’s resignation.
Meanwhile, key Democrats are working behind-the-scenes trying to decide if
they will seek the office.
